Do I need my own instrument?

Your instrument may be borrowed, rented, or purchased - but you do need to have regular access throughout the week to practice your assignments.

Is it better to purchase/rent a violin?

Purchasing a quality beginner level violin will cost around $300-500. If you are unsure about whether the instrument is right for you, or your child is growing fast, you may want to rent from a reputable luthier or music shop. They will be able to provide you insurance for the instrument, and often have rent to purchase programs where a portion of your rental fees can be put towards the purchase of an instrument.

Is it ok to use a keyboard for my lessons?

A small keyboard is ok to start out on, however please know that you'll outgrow it quickly and will need to upgrade within a relatively short period of time. It won't provide the proper physical feedback to develop proper technique at the piano. Ideally students should have a full size piano (acoustic or digital) 88 fully weighted keys, with a proper sustain pedal, and bench.
